Green Home Funerals, located in the Bay Area in Berkeley, California is an educational resource and services organization, available to assist you in learning about, and ultimately carrying out, the after death care of your loved ones.
Home Funeral Planning and Guidance
We are here as a support to educate you, and walk you through, how to be your own funeral director, a right you have by law. We are also here to provide ministerial services—helping you create and execute a service that is both healing and honoring.

Call us anytime during normal business hours. We will be happy to discuss with you any of your questions about home funerals and final resting (cremation and green burial). We will talk with you about your current situation and anticipated needs and help you determine if a home funeral is a good fit for you or your loved one. Whether you choose to have a home funeral or a conventional funeral, we believe that it is important to know your options. This is a FREE service.
In-person Consultations $150
We come to your home (anywhere in the Bay Area), and guide you through a thorough planning of a home funeral, including planning the service and making preparations. Our price for this service is $150 for an hour and half. This price can go towards the final cost of a home funeral.
In-Home Funeral Guidance Levels I, II, and III $500-$2000 (see sidebar)
We will come to your home, or to the location where the home funeral will take place. We will be available to you for the duration of your set up and service—usually 1 to 3 days.
What is our role in your home funeral?
- We are here to support you and be an ally during a difficult time.
- We are here to help create and hold space for you.
- We provide education on how to do the more complicated tasks such as paperwork and transportation.
- We provide education on how to wash, move, and prepare the body for lying-in-honor. We bring all the necessary supplies with us.
- We provide education on how to weave ceremony into all aspects of the funeral.
- We work with cemeteries, crematoriums and vendors—many of whom offer us discounted rates we can pass along to you. We work directly with them so you don’t need to.
- We will advise you on green burial and cremation options.
- We can contact, at your request, our network of partners, from grief counselors to threshold singers, who can be available for you.
*Please note that the prices above do not include the cost of cremation, burial, caskets, paperwork filing or other non-Green Home Funerals-related fees which are paid directly to Vendors.

In-service presentations
We believe that education and outreach are also central to our work. This is why we offer free presentations to hospice, hospitals, women’s and men’s groups and any other community groups and organizations. We will come to your location, at no charge, and speak on the subject, along with showing two brief videos and answering any questions that people have.
